Karim A. Elsharkawy, MD specializes in primary and revision total hip and knee arthroplasty procedures. He has extensive research experience in the area of joint replacement and its effects on the geriatric population. He has also co-authored several peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters on hip and knee replacement.

Dr. Elsharkawy is board-certified in orthopedic surgery and fellowship-trained in adult reconstructive surgery. He received his medical degree from the Cairo University School of Medicine in Egypt, where he graduated with highest honors. He spent six years with the program as a resident then assistant lecturer before coming to the United States. After relocating, he joined the Cleveland Clinic to complete a post-doctoral research fellowship followed by his orthopedic residency. Dr. Elsharkawy also completed the Otto E. Aufranc Fellowship in adult reconstruction at the New England Baptist Hospital in Boston, Mass.

Dr. Elsharkawy worked as a surgeon in a premier orthopedics practice in Marlton, N.J. He is a member of the Royal College of Surgeons in England, American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons and Cleveland Clinic Alumni Association. Dr. Elsharkawy speaks fluent Arabic and French.
